Theresa May sensationally confirmed she hopes to bring back fox-hunting after the Mirror exposed a secret Tory plot to repeal the ban.
Speaking in Leeds today, the Prime Minister admitted she has "always been in favour" of the cruel blood sport and will press ahead with plans for a free vote of MPs after the election.
The Mirror revealed today how fox hunt masters are "mobilising" on behalf of the Tories and believe a majority of 50 or more will be enough to repeal the ban.
Speaking to our reporter on the election campaign trail in Leeds, the Prime Minister said: "This is a situation on which individuals will have one view or the other, either pro or against.
As it happens personally I have always been in favour of fox hunting and we maintain out commitment - we have had a commitment previously as a Conservative Party - to allow a free vote.
And that's what it will allow, would allow, Parliament the opportunity to take a decision on this."
Fox hunt masters are secretly “mobilising” support for Mrs May and believe the general election “is the chance we have been waiting for” to repeal the hunting ban.
The Mirror yesterday revealed a leaked email from the chairman of the Council of Hunting Associations, Lord Mancroft, in which he urges hunt masters to “mobilise supporters” and campaign for pro-hunting Tories in marginal seats. Mirror tells more
