An Army veteran has allegedly killed herself after she was charged with animal cruelty for allegedly tying her service dog to a tree and shooting it five times while her boyfriend filmed.
Marinna Rollins, 23, was arrested last month after footage emerged of her and Jarren Heng, a soldier, with Cam, a pitbull given to her to help with her PTSD.
Fayetteville Police Lt. Todd Joyce said Sunday investigators believe that 23-year-old Marinna Rollins killed herself. Joyce declined to explain what evidence detectives found.
He says police were called to her apartment early Sunday after her body was found by friends.
They allegedly took him to a wooded area in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where the dog was shot five times at close range before the dog was buried in a shallow grave.
In the video she can be heard saying ‘It’s been real… I love you, you’re my puppy, you’re a good puppy, but…’
Court documents show Rollins received a medical retirement from the Army in January.
Rollins was then seen dragging the dog’s body before putting him in a shallow grave.
Police said that Heng filmed what was happening and they found multiple videos of the killing as well as text messages talking about what they had done.
Rollins is believed to have owned Cam for over a year and a Justice for Cam Facebook page has been set up.
They were being held on $25,000 bail.
